Troubleshooting tips for hVAc


For all cooling issues, please turn your thermostat to off to prevent additional damages to your air conditioning system.

Check the Thermostat: Make sure the thermostat is set to the desired temperature and in the appropriate mode (heating or cooling). Also, ensure that the batteries, if applicable, are fresh and properly inserted.


drain

All Air conditioning systems have a condensate drain that goes to the exterior of the home. Not all systems have condensate overflow safety switches, but if they do, it can cause your AC system to turn off unexpectedly. Clearing your condensate drain can be as simple as connected a wet-dry vacuum to your condensate drain outlet, and attempting to remove any clogs. If your drain has a steady drip while the AC is operating, this likely may not be the issue.


air filters

Dirty air filters can restrict airflow and cause HVAC system issues. Regularly inspect and clean or replace air filters according to the manufacturer's recommendations. This simple step can improve system performance and prevent unnecessary breakdowns.


circuit breakers

If your HVAC system is not functioning, check the circuit breakers in the electrical panel. Sometimes, a tripped breaker can be the culprit. If you find a tripped breaker, reset it and see if that resolves the issue.


furnace switch

If you have a split system AC with a gas furnace, your emergency furnace shut off switch should always be in the “ON” position. This switch is typically a red backplate labeled with the word “Emergency” or “Furnace Shut-off”. These switches will usually be located near the access point of the furnace or near the system thermostat.
